The Clear Ocean app is a citizen science project, uniting the yachting community as a collective, to provide realtime data on ocean plastic pollution for open source use.
ONLY 1% OF THE WORLDS OCEAN PLASTIC POLLUTION IS KNOWN ABOUT.
There are thousands of yachts sailing around the oceans of the world every day. As they do so they will inevitably come across ocean debris and know exactly where it is. The problem is what can they do with that information?
The Clear Ocean Project is the simple answer – it provides a mobile app that allows crews and passengers to geo tag plastic pollution in the ocean when they see it, describe what it is and upload a photo. That information is then automatically sent to an open source database which anyone can see.
If you want to get involved it really couldn’t be simpler. When you see plastic pollution just click on the link below to go to the app and upload an image.
Once you have done that the information you complete will populate the database so please include as much information as you can.
We have included quick, one click category suggestions to help identify the major plastic pollution types.
The Clear Ocean Project is a citizen science initiative developed by Clear Ocean and Just One Ocean, and made possible by the support from MYBA – The Worldwide Yachting Association.
